MUFFINS 1st Academic Meeting

The 1st MUFFINS Academic meeting has taken place at Newcastle University on the 25th of July 2018. All the three academic teams including investigators and postdoctoral researchers from Imperial, Glasgow and Newcastle got together to present their individual progress, and brainstorm ideas on work packages, current industry challenges and worldwide state-of-the-art research related to multiphase flow-induced vibrations. The next academic meeting is being planned to take place in Glasgow in November following the next Steering meeting to take place at Imperial in September 2018.

MUFFINS 2nd Project Meeting

The 2nd MUFFINS Steering Committee meeting has taken place at Imperial College on the 11th of April 2018. Newly appointed postdoctoral researchers have also attended this event. The academic teams presented their progress and the wish lists from industry partners for consideration through their work packages. Wood & TNO have also presented their studies and design works related to slug flows and multiphase flow-induced vibrations. The next Steering Committee meeting is being planned to take place at Imperial in September 2018.

MUFFINS Kick-Off Meeting

The first MUFFINS project kick-off and Steering Committee meeting has taken place at Newcastle University on the 31st of January 2018. Participants also had a chance to visit Newcastle’s Hydrodynamics Laboratory located in the historical Armstrong building. The next Steering Committee meeting is being planned to take place at Imperial College London in April 2018.

The MUFFINS research is an EPSRC-funded project with a total fund of £1.6m. MUFFINS runs from February 2018 to January 2021, involving Newcastle University (Lead Organisation), Imperial College London, Cranfield University and other project partners including research organisations and oil & gas industrial companies. The ultimate goal of this world-leading academia-industry collaboration is to develop the next generation of pioneering technologies, cost-efficient tools and recommended guidelines for the safe, reliable and real-life designs of deep-water subsea systems transporting multiphase flows and subject to the coupled internal/external flow-induced vibrations.
